Fiji (Nadi)

What a fantastic place to spend 24 hours.  I am so thankful that we had a “layover” in Fiji and knowing that we need to go back and experience it in full.   The weather was not fantastic, but that was all overshadowed by the beauty of the island and all the friendly locals.   The Fijians take the cake for friendliest people on our trip.   So humble, and immensely proud of their rugby team (gold medalist in the Olympics).  We were welcome with open arms, and I look forward to experiencing the hospitality in the future.

Heaven is a place on Earth and that place is Fiji. When I die I hope I live a second life as a fish in the Fijian waters. The water here is absolutely beautiful (better than the pictures you see) and full of friendly creatures. The landscape is SO green and the water is SO blue (imagine a tropical rainforest on an island with people living tree houses or villas). Fiji is consisted of over 322 islands and over 300 different dialects so the culture differences with in this tiny country are enough to keep you here for years. The cuisine has a lot of Indian influences (due to the history of this country) but also a tropical vibe, so a lot of curry & seafood is eaten here. But it isn’t the beauty, cuisine or activities that keep my heart here, it is the people. The Fijian people are like no other. The people are really what makes this place special. As soon as I stepped off the plane I was greeted with “Welcome Home” and that is exactly how I felt the entire trip. For the first time, ever, I felt like I was home. The people are so loving, genuine and nurturing that everyone at our resort was a part of our family within seconds of arriving. I have met a lot of poeple and been welcomed by a lot of cultures but nothing compares to the Fijians. It wasn’t like the Thai version of kindness where everyone is respectful to you or polite, it was the family version of joking around, sharing everything with each other, hugging, looking after each other type. It was absolutely wonderful. I can’t wait to go back! If there is anywhere in the world I could recommend others to experience it is definitely Fiji.

“You are going to meet people who will change your life forever. Some are there for years, a few for a lifetime and many for what seems like just a flash. But everyone changes you in a way. They are all pieces of who you are and who you will be.” – The Better Man Project
